Dave MacMaster Receives Auto Racing Excellence Award

Waterbury, VT - - Dave MacMaster of Butler & MacMaster Automotive in Hallowell, Maine received the prestigious Don MacTavish Award, Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the American Canadian Tour (ACT) Banquet of Champions.

ACT President Tom Curley presented the annual award for distinguishing the sport of stock car racing through excellence of performance, dedication and high standards of conduct.



Butler & MacMaster is the sole engine builder responsible for maintenance of ACT's "crate engine" program, which has received national attention for its comprehensive cost controls and inventory management. ACT Late Model competitors use "factory-sealed motors" that restrict internal access by individual teams and reduce engine prices by fifty per-cent or more.

MacTavish was a Dover, Massachusetts native, who raced extensively throughout New England, New York and Canada. He was the 1966 NASCAR National Sportsman Champion and was instrumental in bringing attention to Northeast stock car racing. His career ended with a fatal crash at Daytona on the eve of the 1969 Daytona 500.
