ACT Official Succumbs To Stray Gunshot Injury

For immediate Release ACT74-121102

Lebanon, NH - - Edward Carroll, 59, of Berlin, VT, died Tuesday evening December 10, nine days after being struck by a stray bullet while seated in his home watching television. Carroll had been in intensive care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with head and spinal injuries following the freak incident, described by police as an apparent hunting accident.

Carroll served as an official at both Thunder Road and Airborne. He began his 20-year ACT career as a pit steward and flag man at Catamount Stadium in Milton, VT.

"Eddie was universally liked by everyone," said ACT President Tom Curley. "He was one of those unique people, who would never complain about any job he was asked to do. The racers loved him, especially the Street Stocks, who he watched out for and joked around with. You don't find good men like that very often. Our organization will be saddened by his loss for a long time."

Cards and condolences may be sent to Sheila Richards PO Box 1055, Barre, VT 05641 or the ACT office, PO Box 296 Waterbury, VT 05676.
