Antique Racers Coming to Canaan in 2003
CANAAN, NH (December 30, 2002): The cars of yesteryear will make
appearances on three separate occasions during the 2003 season at the
Canaan Fair Speedway. Canaan Association of Racers for Racers (CARR)
Operations Manager Bob Stanhope announced that the New England Antique
Racers (NEAR) and the Senior Tour Auto Racers (STAR) will join the five
other regularly scheduled divisions on Saturday nights throughout the
summer.

NEAR will make their presence known on May 24th for a special Memorial
Day tribute to the racers. A non-profit organization, NEAR supports the
history of New England auto racing. NEAR has been in existence since
1981 and has a growing membership of approx. 350-400 members and 80
antique race cars. Members live throughout New England provide
exhibition events at local race tracks in New England with both original
and historical replica race cars.

For the last 4 years, NEAR has inducted 49 individuals into the New
England Auto Racers Hall Of Fame, which is administered by the New
England Antique Racers. Some very notable inductees include Richie
Evans, Ron Bouchard, Bugs Stevens, Rene Charland, Pete Hamilton, Fred
DeSarro, Ed Flemke, Sr. and Billy Greco.

STAR will make two appearances next summer. The first appearance is
scheduled for June 7th and the second date will be September 6th.
Founded in 1999, STAR is one of the largest displays of antique stock
cars in the northeast. The sole purpose of STAR is to restore antique
race cars, display at racetracks, sporting events, and similar locations
and events. STAR honors outstanding people in the field of auto racing,
and fosters and develops knowledge of "The History of Auto Racing" among
interested individuals and groups as well as the general public.

"The NEAR and STAR organizations provide a great service to the racing
community by preserving a piece of history," commented Stanhope. "We
were more than happy to accommodate their request to display their cars
and provide a exhibition race for the fans at the Canaan Fair Speedway,"
continued Stanhope.

The CARR organization and the management at the Canaan Fair Speedway
