I wonder what will happen when cars that run the tour from tracks that currently have the mylaps system(if it is that system) and have their own transponders come to the tour races. If they have the transponder that is hard wired they may not be able to turn it off, will they have to lease one or will ACT allow them to use their own?

One of the nice things about the system is when you go to a track other than your own, it picks up your transponder and automatically recognizes it. When we go on the DIRT tour we do not even have to give them the transponder number. Also, since ours are hardwired, we have multiple transponders and the system knows they are all Todds and puts the results all under his name.

It is really an unbelievable system when it is set up to maximize the use of it! You really have to play with it to appreciate it.

That was my question when I was reading the release.  Like when ACT comes to OPS and the track regulars attempt the race and already own their own, are they going to be allowed to use theirs or are they going to have to forfeit the $10 each race to use one of his?  Same goes for guys like Ricky Rolfe and Travis Adams (who said he was running the full tour this year) who own their own already.  Do they still have to forfeit the $10 each event running the full tour or can they use theirs since they already have it?

I can see how it wouldn't be fair to people that don't have their own that they have to shell out every week and the others don't, but at the same time, it's not fair to the guys that already have their own to have to shell out each week when they've already paid in the past.

Here is what the price is for both versions of the transponders. We run the direct wire unit which is cheaper and does not need to be recharged all the time.

Geez Crowbar.  You ain't shoping at the right place.

Retail is 380$ (direct) / 420$ (rechargeable).

Anyone who wants one that mentions reading this here will get it at 370$ (direct) and 410$ (rechargeable).

Since this is the positive place to discusss on line the 2010 ACT news, I want to be positive in replying to this post.

I am the first to say that this move is long overdue and will be a great addition in moving ACT and Thunder Road into the 21st century.

Andy, I am more than Positive that I have much more experiance with electronic transponder based timing and scoring that you do. Be it you admitt it or not.

I am positive the only issue I have seen in the hundreds of races that I have been a part of scored by that was last season at CVRA VS The World when some idiot forgot to turn the system on for the first time trial group.

I am positive that some of you that are now crowing about this move, last fall when I brought up the need for it due to the Laperle deal were all about how it sucked and was a waste of money and time.

The other issues I have with the procedure ACT has put into  place as far as the transponders themselves, I am positive most of you have read over at Gene's site.

No Mr. Crowbar

Electronic scoring would have done noting to fix the Laperle deal.
It just would have made it faster and easier for the sanctioning body to decide if they should penalize Patrick one lap, two laps, three laps, or however many it would take right down to a total disqualification if need be. In order to place him far enough behind in the finishing order. So they could give Donald the championship.

WTF are you that new to Race Track Politics?

Its pretty easy each session (heat, semi, feature) will have the competitors pre loaded. If a transponder crosses the line that’s not in that session the scorer can add or delete the transponder. So if TC wants you to lease a transponder its very easy to delete the one hard wired to your car.

TJ

Its the rule that says no members of a crew can leave their own pit during the running of a tour race.

Ever since that championship race it has puzzled me how they run a tour race at T Road where no one pits in the infield. All the crew members watch from the pit stands and they can pull it off without penalizing the entire field a lap or two for all the infractions of crewmen being out of their own pit.

Shouldn't they all have assigned seats like kinder garden through 6th grade so its fair for all the teams? I suppose you can make an exception if someone is granted a bathroom pass.

Putting in a timing system can hardly be considered an experiment when they are so widely used, liked, and accepted. When Airborne put one in it seemed only the drivers/teams who never used a transponder seemed to have any doubts. There is just no other way to compare your individual lap times against everyone in the field. I highly doubt any driver or team doesn't like them.

Giving a driver/team an option to rent one would seem like a good idea, but forcing them to be rented seems really stupid! or very greedy by forcing a captive market to pay a rental premium.

Good point JH, I stand corrected.

No one is disputing the fact that it is in the rule book. Just pointing out the fact that it was only enforced once. When it could conveniently sway the points championship. Name one other time it has been enforced Oh Wizard of Pointless Fact less Bull Shit.

Now back to the original topic of the post I don't see why everyone is up in arms over a press release. I would think they would wait until they had all the facts spelled out to them in a drivers meeting where questions can be asked and answered so there is no confusion.

All that has been talked about here is speculation on how each person that read the press release has interpereted it to say. In all reality its a possibility the wording of the release could be wrong. Who ever wrote it could have been confused as to what Tom told him and posted the release. Tom may have been busy or unavailable to proof read it befor it went on the website. If I were really that concerned I would call (802) 244-6963 or 6964 or email tmc@acttour.com and ask for an explanation and I am sure you could get all the facts pretty quickly.  From what I have seen in the past Tom is pretty quick to respond to emails that are written and sent to him in a polite sensible manner.
