CLARK TOP PASS ROOKIE
Johnny Clark of Farmingdale Maine is the Pro All Stars Series’ Rookie of
the Year after dominating the category throughout much of the 2002 campaign. An
exceptional group of candidates signed up for the title chase and Clark came out
of the box strong and maintained a solid grip on the standings from race one on.
Clark wheeled a Chevrolet Monte Carlo sponsored by DNK Select Used Cars and
Clark’s Cars and Parts to earn the 2002
Northern
Race Tires Rookie Challenge award. Clark earned 3046 Pro All Stars Series points
to tie Kenny Wright for fourth in the overall series standings. Litchfield’s’
Doug Averill came on strong in the second half of 2002, earning several top five
and top ten finishes as the season wound down. A fourth at Star Speedway
highlighted Averill’s run in the VIP Discount Auto Centers Monte Carlo.
Averill came home eight in the PASS standings with 2,912 markers. Russ Hersey
also made a second half run at the points, accumulating several top ten finishes
on his way to tenth in the overall title hunt with 2,880. The Swanzey NH driver
drove his Brickmill Marketing Chevy into the top ten on several occasions,
highlighted by a fifth place performance in the prestigious Atlantic Cat 250 at
Scotia Speedworld. Wayne Helliwell Jr. came home fourth in the final standings.
The southern New Hampshire native showed a great promise early in the season and
looked like a threat to Clark for the top spot but bad racing luck and a few
mechanical dnfs spoiled his chances for the title. Helliwell drove Carleton
Robies’ S.A. Sting number 24 to 12th place with a total 2836. Second
generation driver Cassius Clark of Farmington Maine made his Pro Stock debut in
the PASS series and had a very respectable season. Clark’s Chapman Racing
Taurus showed strength on many occasions. Clark’s 11th place run at White
Mountain in July was his best run and he finishes the year in 13th overall with
2,642 points.
Johnny Clark will join 2002 Pro All Stars Champion Ben Rowe and a host of other being honored at the Pro All Stars Series Banquet of Champions on Friday evening November 8th at Verillos Conference Center in Portland Maine.
